Empowering Futures, Inspiring Change

Our Projects

The Cutting Edge is more than a conversation. It is a transformative space where authentic dialogue sparks understanding, empowerment, and change. Rooted in the tradition of the barbershop as a trusted community gathering place, this initiative brings people together to discuss real-life experiences, challenges, and opportunities related to diversity, inclusion, culture, leadership, and community well-being.

Through honest and courageous conversations, participants share perspectives, challenge assumptions, and build meaningful connections across differences. The program creates a safe environment where voices are heard, lived experiences are valued, and collective solutions can emerge.

At its core, The Cutting Edge harnesses the power of dialogue to inspire action, strengthen relationships, and foster a more inclusive and equitable community. It demonstrates that when people come together with openness and respect, conversations become catalysts for growth, understanding, and lasting impact.

Real change starts with real conversations. By listening, learning, and leading together, we create stronger communities and a more inclusive future for everyone.

Engaging African Nova Scotian and Black Men and Boys around Domestic Violence

Impact:

By creating safe spaces for honest dialogue and learning, the program empowered participants to break cycles of violence, strengthen community connections, and become positive role models. The program fostered greater awareness, emotional growth, healthier relationships, and a shared commitment to building safer, stronger, and more resilient African Nova Scotian and Black communities.

Key Message: When men and boys are empowered with knowledge, support, and a sense of belonging, they become powerful catalysts for ending violence, strengthening families, and creating lasting community change.

3rd ANNUAL BLACK MEN’S SUMMIT

The 3rd Annual Black Men’s Health Summit brought together approximately 145 African Nova Scotian, African Canadian, African, and Black men from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, making it one of the largest gatherings of Black men in the region focused on health, wellness, leadership, and community development. Participants included youth, students, fathers, elders, professionals, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and advocates, creating a unique multigenerational environment that encouraged learning, mentorship, healing, and connection.

One of the strongest messages that emerged from the Summit was the critical importance of mentorship. Participants consistently identified mentorship as one of the most effective tools for preventing violence, supporting youth development, strengthening families, and building healthier Black communities. Discussions also highlighted the need to view mental health, family wellness, and community safety as shared responsibilities rather than isolated individual concerns.

The impact of the Summit extended beyond the event itself. Participants left with a stronger sense of community, connection, and collective responsibility. The gathering reinforced the need for continued investment in culturally relevant and community-led initiatives that support Black men and boys.
